The city is proposing to add some buffered bicycle lanes (currently shared lanes) from Central through 7th St. Most of that is currently 5 lanes. Full details of the proposal is online at: https://www.phoenix.gov/streets/fillmore. It would make a significantly safer bicycle access into downtown from Garfield.
The City of Phoenix is having a public (virtual) meeting and requesting feedback on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 6 p.m. You can register for the meeting at the above URL.
Buffered bicycle lanes with vertical protection would be added where there is space available. One driving lane in each direction from 1st Street to 7th Street would be removed. One of the proposed option alternatives from Central Avenue to 1st street would remove three parking spaces. Exiting turn lanes and medians would not be affected in either plans.
